Característiques principals
The objectives of the Dr. Josef Steiner award are:
•to honor outstanding cancer research: new basic concepts, new diagnostic or therapeutic approaches and preventive methods;
•to encourage those individuals who have contributed to basic knowledge of cancer by their systematic research work;
•to educate the public that cancer research progress is realized in a step by step manner;
•to honor even small advances in the hope that a major breakthrough in cancer research will sooner or later occur.

Selection process:
  • First, an outline of the proposed project will be evaluated. The deadline for submission of the project outline is May 15 2014.
  • Authors of the most promising five to six project outlines will be requested to provide a full research project by October 1, 2014.
  • Finally, interviews will be held in Bern, Switzerland in January, 2015.
    The announcement of the Award will be made in February 2015, with the project beginning from February 1, 2015.
    The official prize ceremony will take place at the University of Bern in October, 2015.
    • Requisits
    Investigators should be:
    •An innovative investigator early in his/her career
    •Involved in projects in basic and/or clinical research (specifically, the translation of new theoretical insights into clinical applications)
    •Able to provide the infrastructure needed to carry out the proposed project
    Dotació
    •Funding up to the amount of CHF 1'000'000 over 4 years, for an outstanding cancer-related research project.
    •A personal prize of CHF 50'000 awarded to the successful principal investigator.
